Study notes
Israel crosses his hands so that his right hand rests on Ephraim, the younger son, and later asks to be buried with his fathers in the cave in Ephron’s field. After their father dies, Joseph’s brothers wonder whether he will repay them, but Joseph tells them that what they planned as harm, God planned for good.
From Genesis 48:14 (KoS), Genesis 49:29 (KoS), Genesis 50:15 (KoS), Genesis 50:20 (KoS).

When Joseph’s father refuses, what does he say about the older brother and the younger brother?
His father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will be great. Even so, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his offspring will become a fullness of nations.”
-
What does Joseph say his father made him swear, and what does he ask permission to do?
‘My father made me swear. He said, I am about to die. In the grave I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me. Now please let me go up and bury my father, and I will return.’”
-
What message do the brothers send to Joseph, and how does Joseph respond when they speak?
‘This is what you shall say to Joseph: Please forgive the crime of your brothers and their sin, for they did you harm.’ Now please forgive the crime of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
