Study notes
After the people crave meat, Yahweh sends quail and then strikes them, and when Miriam and Aaron speak against Moses, Miriam is kept outside the camp for seven days. The men who scouted the land and spread a bad report about it die in a plague, while Joshua and Caleb live.

What does Moses say to Joshua when Joshua wants him to stop Eldad and Medad from prophesying?
Two men stayed in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the second was Medad. The spirit rested on them. They were among those enrolled, and they had not gone out to the tent, and they prophesied in the camp. The young man ran and told Moses, and he said, Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp. Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ attendant, from his chosen men, answered and said, My lord Moses, restrain them. Moses said to him, Are you jealous for me? Would that all Yahweh’s people were prophets, and that Yahweh would put his spirit on them. Moses was gathered back to the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
Note · Translation Bakketuvim is “among the ones written down,” the men whose names were enrolled.
Note · Translation Bechurav can be his young men or his chosen men. “Chosen men” is printed. Kela’em is restrain them.

How does Yahweh say his way of speaking with Moses is different from how he speaks with a prophet?
Yahweh said suddenly to Moses, to Aaron, and to Miriam, Come out, you three, to the tent of meeting. The three of them came out. Yahweh came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the door of the tent. He called Aaron and Miriam, and the two of them came out. He said, Hear my words, please. If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, make myself known to him in a vision. In a dream I speak with him. Not so my servant Moses. In all my house he is faithful. Mouth to mouth I speak with him, and in a sight, not in riddles, and he looks at the form of Yahweh. Why were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?
Note · Translation The Hebrew line is compressed. “If there is a prophet among you” is printed, and Yahweh is the one who makes himself known.
Note · Translation Mar’eh is a sight, something seen plainly. Chidot are riddles. Temunat Yahweh is the form of Yahweh.
